About Couteau
Our story
Couteau makes bespoke fitted interiors — cabinetry, door fronts, wall panelling and internal doors, quietly refined and built to last.
Brand introduction
A British maker of engineered boards
Couteau board is rooted in a British industrial tradition — one known for its craftsmanship and resource. From those roots, Couteau has grown into a name trusted for advanced, beautifully made engineered boards.
Today that heritage underpins bespoke fitted interiors: cabinetry, door fronts, wall panelling and internal doors, all designed to work together throughout the home.
Every board is made to a strict quality-management system and a consistent international standard, using low-emission, water-based pigments that are free from heavy metals harmful to health — hard-wearing, responsibly made and built to last.
Our approach is a simple one: quality first, customer first. We invest in the best materials and processes and refine them continually, so a Couteau interior still feels right many years later.

Since 1933
More than ninety years in the making
More than ninety years of making began, for Couteau, at the board bench. Founded in Beckenham in 1933, the workshop first earned its name producing boards of quiet, dependable quality — cut true, finished carefully, made to last. That early discipline set the pattern for everything since: an insistence on sound materials, precise joinery and work that is checked by hand before it leaves the bench.
More than ninety years on, the same care now extends through the whole home. What started in board-making grew, decade by decade, into bespoke fitted interiors — cabinetry, door fronts, wall panelling and internal doors, each made to measure for the room it will serve. The tools have changed; the habit of patience has not. Every installation still carries our written guarantee covering materials and workmanship.
