About Couteau
Craftsmanship
A fitted interior is only ever as good as the board it is built on. This is the story of how ours is made — pressed, pigmented, finished and fitted — and the standards we hold at every step.
From board to room
Made, not merely assembled
Most fitted furniture starts with a bought-in panel. Ours starts earlier — with the board itself, made in our own works so that nothing about it is left to chance.
It begins with the board. Fine, evenly planed strands of timber are laid in a cross-mesh, so that the finished panel is strong in every direction — the quiet, dependable foundation beneath every cabinet, door and panel we make.
Then the pressing. The mesh travels along a 45-metre Dieffenbach continuous press — German-engineered, and among the most advanced wood-based-panel technology in the world — where it is pressed to a density of over 700 kg per cubic metre and bonded with low-formaldehyde, responsibly sourced adhesives. What emerges is dense, stable and precisely made.
Then the pigments. Colour is applied with low-emission, water-based pigments, free from heavy metals harmful to health — because a fitted interior shares the air of the rooms you live in.
Then the finishing. Finishes are developed and applied in the same works that makes the board, each one inspected against a single, consistent international standard before it leaves.
And finally, the fitting. Every piece is made to measure for your home and fitted with the same care with which it was made — and every installation comes with a written guarantee covering materials and workmanship.

From a single pressed board to a finished, fitted room — one unbroken chain of making.
In detail
The disciplines behind the work
Six habits of making that we hold to on every board, in every collection.
Everything under one roof
From substrate to finished panel, we control quality at every stage. Board-making, finish development and panel production all happen within our own integrated manufacturing — so a Couteau board is never a stranger to the hands that finish it. When one maker answers for the whole chain, nothing is passed along and nothing is passed over.
German-engineered precision
Our boards are pressed on a Dieffenbach continuous line — advanced continuous flat-pressing that holds density and thickness with remarkable consistency along the full 45-metre press. Precision at this stage is what allows precision at every later one: doors that hang true, joints that close quietly, cabinetry that stays square for years.
Designed alongside Europe
We develop forward-looking finishes and designs alongside an experienced European research-and-development team. It keeps our palette current without being fashionable — textures and tones considered slowly, then made properly.
Colour you can live with
Our pigments are water-based and low-emission, free from heavy metals harmful to health, and our adhesives are low-formaldehyde. These are quiet choices — you will never see them — but they matter every day, in every breath a room takes. You can explore the palette in Colours & finishes.
One standard, everywhere
A quality-inspection system runs through the whole process, holding every board to a single, consistent international standard. Not a standard for the showroom sample and another for the production run — the same standard, every time.
Traceable, board by board
Unique coding ties every board to its brand and origin. It is your assurance that what is fitted in your home is the genuine article — made by us, to our standard, and traceable all the way back to the press.
