Smoked Oak Vitrine

The intention was storage that would furnish the room rather than simply serve it. Two matching vitrines run from floor almost to ceiling, their slender smoked-oak frames holding panels of clear glass so the contents read as part of the decoration. Between them, a recess houses a serving counter and open shelving — glasses and bottles within reach of the table — so the whole wall works as a single, considered composition rather than a run of cupboards.

The cabinetry is finished in a deep smoked-ebony woodgrain, its darkness lifted by concealed lighting set into each shelf edge, which washes the glassware in a soft, even glow. A pale stone-topped table on a dark timber base gathers charcoal upholstered chairs at the centre of the room, set on a light rug against near-black boards. It is a space for long dinners, everything needed for the table kept beautifully, and visibly, to hand.
