Kitchen

Bronze Shelf Galley

A kitchen arranged on three walls, its handleless drawers finished in pale ash-grained oak beneath a continuous run of open charcoal shelving. Smoked-dark wall cabinets carry the composition upwards, while concealed lighting washes the worktop below. Every element — glassware, dry stores, the brass relief above — is given its place, so the room reads as one calm, ordered whole.

The project

The brief here was balance: light below, dark above, and a working band of open shelving between the two. Base drawers in a pale, straight-grained oak run unbroken around three sides of the room, their handleless fronts keeping the lower half quiet. Above, wall cabinets in a deep smoked finish frame the space without closing it in, stopping short of the ceiling’s central span so the room keeps its height and light.

That middle band does the daily work. Charcoal open shelving spans the full width of the splashback, lit from within and from beneath the cabinets above, holding glassware, storage jars and dry goods within easy reach of the worktop. A brass wall relief sits at its centre — the one flourish in an otherwise disciplined scheme. Dark worktops and a stained timber floor ground the composition, and taps at either end serve the two working runs.
